Travel Smart: The Travel App Every Canadian Should Download

Are you Canadian and love to travel or want to start traveling? Then you need to have the Travel Smart app before you take your next trip. This Travel Smart app is put out by the Canadian government. It is extremely useful for predetermining where you’re going and what you need to know for your trip as well as a number of things you need to know while on your trip if an emergency comes up.

Here’s how Travel Smart works

When you tap into Travel Smart tap your destination and it will put it into your destinations tab. Once you choose all your destinations you can tap into each one and it will come up with a number of different options.

Risk Level

The first one is the risk level. This is going to explain to you what the different risk levels are and then will tell you what the risk level is to travel to the particular country that you’re looking up. This is super helpful for travel insurance because certain risk levels can void your travel insurance. Make sure you’re really reading that fine print of your insurance policy.

Safety and Security

Next is safety and security. This will tell you about the types of crimes that happen often in that destination and how to be safe. It is important to be aware of what’s going on in that country.

Entry and Exit Requirements

Entry and exit requirements are next. You want to know this information before you start booking your trip so that you have the right documents before you go to the airport. You don’t want to be turned around and come back to Canada not having the right entry requirements.

Health

Next is your health. This gives you all the travel health related notices of that particular country. It’s also going to give you information about vaccines that you might need as well as information about the food, water and different types of viruses and illnesses that you can get over here. In addition it tells you about the medical services and facilities that are available in that destination.

Law and Culture

Laws and culture are next. It gives you a brief overview of the different laws to be aware of important general information about the country.

Natural Disasters and Climate

Next is natural disasters and climate. This explains the types of natural disasters that have happened and can possibly happen in the future. It is also a great resource to know the different seasons of weather there so you can determine when to travel there for good weather.

Assistance

Assistance is next, which is the best. This is super useful if something happens to you like your passport being stolen or lost, if you’re caught in a riot,or if a natural disaster happens. This gives you all the information of your closest Canadian consulate. Once you tap into here, you’ll have the information on how to get there and how to call them. Their email address and social channels are also linked so you have multiple ways to get in touch with them and to and get help.

Emergency Services

Lastly, is emergency services. This is your one stop shop to find out how to contact emergency services in that country. This information is super useful if something goes wrong, since emergency numbers are different all around the world. It will break down the different emergency services, if there are differences, or if there is one number to call for all services. It has a link to dial it straight from your phone as well which is extremely useful.

The Travel Smart app makes it easy to find all this information. Within the Travel Smart app it also has a lot of links to give you more information to expand on what is not fully included in the app. These links will take you to the Canadian government’s website direct page of that extra information that you want. To access these links you will need to have data on your phone either your paid plan or WIFI. Make sure you check this information out at home or if checking while away have an internet connection at your accommodation, have data enabled on your phone or a local sim card in your phone.

I highly recommend that you download this right now so that you have this on your phone for whenever you start planning and traveling again.

When you do start planning your next trip, I want to ensure you’ll have a trip without surprises due to Covid-19.
