How To Avoid Getting Lost Abroad – All You Need To Know
One of the most common fears is this: you’re in a different country, you don’t know how to get around, you don’t know where to go and you end up getting lost abroad. How do you get yourself out of this now? At this point, most people just kind of spiral and stress not knowing what to do. This thinking is even before they go on their trip.
Once you’re on your trip, you tend to realize that getting lost abroad, you are able to figure things out. The thing is though, you just don’t know that until you are in that situation. I’m going to give you a couple of tips on what I do to help you to figure this out quicker than you may think.
What you need to avoid getting lost abroad
Accommodation Address
The first thing is to always carry your accommodation address with you. When you have the address with you, if you get lost, you can jump in a taxi, give them the address and they’ll be able to take you to your accommodations. You can also order an Uber or other ride sharing options and be able to plug in the address of your accommodations.
Now if you’re not going back to your accommodations you can still do the exact same thing. Either order an Uber or grab a taxi and tell them where you’re going. You’ll most likely be going to a tourist destination, so you’ll be able to just say take me to the Eiffel Tower, wherever you are going. When stressing and spiraling about getting lost abroad, and trying to figure it out yourself, get yourself out of that situation easily by getting a ride to where you are going and then start again, fresh. The second thing you want to do is know how to use Google Maps. I am rarely getting lost abroad using Google maps. It is the number one app I use when I’m traveling. The thing with this option is you want to know how to use this app inside and out now prior to leaving on your trip. Be careful not to be like “yeah, yeah, yeah, I know google maps, I’ve used it for driving.” If you haven’t gone through and figured out how to use the other functions on it, do that prior to leaving and test it out at home. It definitely makes life so much easier because you’re able to plug and play basically. To use Google Maps you don’t necessarily have to have internet data on your phone. You’ll be able to plug in the information when you have wifi, then press go and it will still give you the directions as you’re going without the wifi as long as you don’t close out of the app. There is an option to download maps offline from Google Maps, but it is not my favorite offline map. I prefer using maps.me for offline maps. With Google Maps you’re able to do so many things on top of being able to find your way out of different situations. It is a great resource when you are planning your trip.Google Maps
