My 15 Favourite Travel Inspired Movies – Part Two of Two
Continuing on with my top 15 favourite travel inspired movies I have two categories left. The first part was posted last week and I nudge you to see the first half of my list.
Drama/comedies:
This film definitely tops my list of travel inspired movies for me. If I see it on TV I have to watch it, and other times I just need to watch the copy I have. Such a feel good movie with loads of ups and downs to relate to. What I wouldn’t give to end up spending my life living in a beautiful villa in Tuscany. Pure bliss.
The Bucket List
I love this story of two very unexpected friends having the time of their lives near the end of their lives. This movie was the first time I learned about poop coffee and then in turn was able to understand the relevance when I came across it in Vietnam and Bali.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
I love how this movie shows the different personalities and some realities of getting older. It shows how different people handle being completely out of their comfort zone. Being set in India it is a feast for your eyes!
The English Patient
The gorgeous cinematography in this film will make you fall in love with the Sahara, (maybe not what happens in the Sahara, but the landscape itself). Even if you are not a romance movie fan, this one is one that you will want to be sure to see. Once you watch it you will see why it won multiple Academy Awards and makes my list of travel inspired movies.
Based on true stories/documentaries:
Everest
Having been to Nepal and doing the Annapurna circuit trek, and wanting to trek to Everest base camp at another point, this movie sure drills into me how much I never want to actually climb to the top of Everest! Based on the real life story of the trekkers caught in a storm on the way to the summit, this movie brings you up close and personal with what it takes to climb Everest and how much you really need to want it. The views are remarkable as you would expect and movie goes by in an instant.
Into the Wild
I have read the book along with watching the movie and both are great. Based on the real life of Christopher McCandless who decides to travel America, after graduating from University, with a goal of living in the Alaskan wilderness. He donates his savings to charity and rids himself of his possessions on an epic journey that ended differently than he planned.
Wild
Based on the real life story of Cheryl Strayed who sets out to hike the Pacific Crest Trail with no outdoor experience, trying to put her life back together. I love how this story shows how strong you can be even when you don’t really believe it in the beginning. Being one of the longest and toughest through-trails in America her story captures how you can do anything you put your mind to.
Baraka
This documentary is a visual feast. There is no talking throughout the whole film; it is a completely visual show with sounds from around the world. It took the director Ron Fricke 4-5 years to create and is absolutely breathtaking. The film shows you people, places, things and sounds from around the world. You know you are a true lover of travel and the world if you can watch this movie all the way through with no words. I have watched it multiple times and am in awe each time.
I hope you got some good ideas for movies to watch that you may not have seen yet. I am already looking forward to watching them all again. What are your favourite travel inspired movies?
