Getting Lost: Are you directionally challenged?
There are few other things that people worry about more than getting lost in a city they don’t know. When you are so use to being able to get around and knowing where to go, it can throw you right out of your comfort zone when these things have disappeared.
On top of this, you might be travelling in a place where English is not spoken, making for a stressful situation. Luckily for us, English is widely spoken even if it is not their first language. If you ask someone for help and they don’t speak English and are unable to help, try again, you will eventually come across someone who does. Do not get frustrated or angry when you have to go through multiple people to find someone to help you, after all it is you that needs the help and people are more likely to help someone that does not look angry.
If you are not comfortable doing this, one of the best ways to get you back to your accommodation is to keep a card with the name, address and phone number of your place. You want to make sure this information is also written in the local language. You can get the front desk to write this out for you before you leave for your first day. This way you can hail a cab and just show them the card with the information and you’ll be on your way.
