How to Travel Alone Safely: Arriving at your destination

Most people, when planning their trip, don’t give a second thought to their arrival at their destination. But when you think about how to travel alone safely, there is one thing you shouldn’t overlook in your planning stage.

When you are traveling solo, there is usually some fear and apprehension in not always knowing how to travel alone safely. Once you land in your destination you want to feel safe getting to your accommodations. To help you with this, there is one thing I always recommend you do, when you can do this, as it’s not always possible, is to arrive at your destination during daylight hours.

There are a number of reasons why this is important in feeling safe and secure when you first arrive.

Solo Trip Arrival Tip #1

You’ll be able to get your bearings a lot easier and faster since you’ll be able to see the lay of the land on your way to your accommodations. If you arrive once it is dark it’s very difficult to see and determine where things are.

When you are making your way to your accommodations, if you do get lost or if something happens, you’re more likely to run into people during the daylight hours to ask for directions or to ask for help. Shops will be open, people will be out and about, and it is less daunting talking to someone in daylight.

It’ll be more likely that someone is at your accommodations to greet you. Not every place you  book for your accommodations is going to have a 24 hour front desk service. Some smaller hotels and vacation rentals do have limited hours. Before you leave, confirm with your accommodations what their hours are, just in case your flight gets delayed, along with their contact information.
