The Ultimate Trip Planning Tips – How long to spend in each city

When you have multiple places you want to visit on your trip, you wanna have some trip planning tips from a pro.

When you are planning your trip you need to make sure you have enough time in each place. The less time you have, the more stressful and costly everything will be.

My rule of thumb is to spend a minimum of three nights in one particular city. This way, you have time to relax and ease into the city. Not having to rush everywhere gives you time to breathe in and out instead of running around with your head cut off.

Not only is the hectic pace of your trip an issue, but slowing down will also save you money. The more travel days you have, the more you’re spending on travel costs. When you can stay longer in your accommodations, you can sometimes get that price down a little, instead of spending one night here one night there.

Now another one of those trip planning tips is: this isn’t always possible. Sometimes you just don’t have the time to be able to spend a minimum of three nights in all the places you want to go. Keeping this in mind, you want to determine what type of trip you want to take. Do you want to see everything and you’re okay to have a fast-paced trip and recover and relax when you get home, or do you want it to have a slower more relaxed pace?

If you want it to be a bit of a slower pace, you’re going to have to make some more difficult decisions. You’ll either narrow down the number of places that you’ll be able to fit into this trip or you can extend the trip to be longer to fit all the destinations in. This decision will also depend on your budget and what is comfortable for you to spend on this trip.

The last thing you want to think about is if you are planning on going to a lot of different places, you want to keep in mind how tiring and stressful it is on travel days. Most people don’t realize everything that is involved in a travel day, and by travel day I mean moving to a new accommodation, not a day trip. Normally you just see, “ok, I have 1 flight or 1 train ride, that’s easy”. It is all the little things that you don’t think about.

Not only are you having to pack up all your things, check out of your accommodations, get to the train or airport with extra time, but once you arrive, you now need to get use to a whole new city, how to get around this city, the lay of the land, find your accommodations, check in and unpack. It can become overwhelming doing this a lot in one trip and in turn it can also leave you with a lot of decision fatigue.

I hope you use these trip planning tips on all your future travels as they will help you have a much more enjoyable trip. This, above all other trip planning tips, is definitely a rule that I try to follow as much as I can.
