My 15 Favourite Travel Inspired Movies – Part One of Two
I love travel inspired movies. I always wanted to work in the movies, but alas, the closest I have come to that now is doing my YouTube videos. LOL. I have a broad range of genre I like, but movies that evoke my emotions to inspire me to travel, or give me that wanderlust spirit, or takes me to a place I’ve always wanted to see or want to go back to hold a special place in my heart.
I was going to do a small list of travel inspired movies, but I just kept thinking of more to add, so I have split this into two blog posts. Part two will come out next week. The criteria for my list was this: the movie was so enjoyable that I could watch the show over and over and it had to evoke one of the emotions listed above. So in no particular order here are the first 7 of my favourite 15 travel movies.
Artsy/Fantasy Travel Inspired Movies:
Now don’t let this category turn you off if this genre is not your favourite. These movies are a treat for your senses!
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
This movie always brings a smile to my face. Not only do I love the movie, the soundtrack is also amazing! It is such a feel good movie and will show you what you are capable of doing when you take the plunge to get outside of your comfort zone. I want to go to all the places he went in this movie…they are on my list since seeing this!
Midnight in Paris
Now I am not much of a fan of Woody Allen movies, but this one, gawd, so good! If you have never been to Paris, this will make you ache to get there ASAP. If you have been to Paris, this will bring back all those memories and you can pick out all the spots in the movie. Not only do you experience Paris in present day, but you also get to experience it during the heyday in the 20’s. Total heaven and definitely in my list of travel inspired movies!
This is a wonderfully delicious quirky movie. The cinematography is gorgeous and you could freeze frame every second of this movie and it would look like a photographic masterpiece. Magnificently eccentric characters are filled to the brim to make you giggle and shake your head.
Lord of the Rings
I understand that this movie(s) is (are) hard for people that don’t like fantasy movies to swallow. Even if you only just get through the first movie of the trilogy it will be well worth your time. Not all travel inspired movies are based in reality. The imagination, sets and characters light this movie up and the moral of the story brings back your faith in life.
Action/adventure Travel Inspired Movies:
Indiana Jones
Any of the four movies in this series are an amazing adventure ride, but my favourites are the first one (Raiders of the Lost Ark) and the third one (The Last Crusade). I use to want to be an archeologist when I was young, I even have letters of correspondence with Egyptian archaeology departments in Egypt, but then when I got a bit older I realized that no one really makes any money doing this. LOL These movies give me that excitement of discoveries, exotic locals all wrapped up in a Hollywood bow. 🙂
Back to the Future
Again any one of the movies in this trilogy are great, but funny enough, my favourites were also the first and the third. Although technically they are not travelling to somewhere in the world, they do experience the same place in different years, which does make it feel like a completely different world.
Romancing the Stone
This is also a series of movies. This one had two in the series and I do like them both, but this one great! You can’t go wrong with Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas! Kathleen Turner playing the romance writer who has never been out of America before going to Columbia completely unprepared and all hell breaks loose. Definitely a hilarious adventure!
